Immigration and Relocation Services in Stockholm

Stockholm generates more Swedish work permit volume than anywhere else in the country, and it also has the hardest housing market in the country. Those two facts define almost every Stockholm relocation we handle: the permit is usually the straightforward part, and the apartment is the part that decides whether the family actually comes.

The housing queue is the real constraint

Stockholm’s municipal rental queue runs through Bostadsförmedlingen i Stockholm, and queue position is accumulated time, not merit or need. Nothing shortens it retroactively. Register the moment you have a personal identity number, because every month you are not registered is a month you will wish you had.

In the meantime most arrivals live in second-hand sublets, which in Sweden have their own rules about permitted rent and notice. A contract that looks generous is sometimes simply unlawful, and the tenant is the one exposed. We review contracts before signature. See housing and offices.

Tech, start-ups and the salary threshold

Stockholm’s employer base skews toward technology, life sciences and finance, which means two things for permits. First, salaries usually clear the SEK 34,470 threshold comfortably, so the risk sits elsewhere: in insurance that started late, in an advertisement nobody kept evidence of, or in terms that fall below what is customary in the occupation. Second, employers trading for less than twelve months do not get the accelerated employer support, which catches newly incorporated start-ups by surprise. See corporate immigration.

For genuinely senior technical roles the EU Blue Card is often the better instrument despite the higher salary requirement, because of the mobility rights it carries across the EU.

EU and EEA arrivals

No permit, no sponsorship, and the right to work from day one. What EU arrivals in Stockholm consistently underestimate is how much of daily life is gated behind a personal identity number and BankID. See EU and EEA permits and personnummer in Sweden.

Working with us from Stockholm

We are based in Malmö and work with clients across Sweden. Stockholm cases are handled by video and phone, with documents exchanged digitally and, for corporate clients, through the client portal launching shortly. Nothing about a Stockholm case requires you to be in the same room as us; what it requires is that the file is complete.
