Immigration and Relocation Services in Gothenburg

Gothenburg’s immigration profile is industrial rather than administrative. The city’s employer base is built around automotive, manufacturing, logistics and the port, and that produces a different mix of cases from Stockholm: more intra-group transfers, more specialist engineering roles, more permits attached to project timelines that cannot slip.

Intra-corporate transfers

Where an international group moves a manager, specialist or trainee into a Swedish entity from outside the EU, the ICT permit is frequently the right instrument and frequently overlooked. It requires at least three months of prior unbroken employment within the group, and critically it avoids the advertising requirement that applies to a standard work permit. Managers and specialists up to three years, trainees up to one.

Groups that default to the standard work permit for every transfer lose ten days to an advertisement they did not need to place, and then have to evidence it later. See corporate immigration.

Project timelines and the December deadline

Manufacturing and engineering programmes run to fixed dates, which makes the extension pipeline a scheduling risk rather than an administrative one. The transitional rule allowing certain extensions to be assessed at 80 per cent of the median salary ends on 2 December 2026. If you have permit holders on a project running through 2027, review their salaries against the 90 per cent figure of SEK 34,470 now, while a raise is still a budget decision rather than an emergency. See work permits.

Housing in the Gothenburg region

The municipal rental queue for the region runs through Boplats. As everywhere in Sweden, queue position is accumulated time and cannot be bought back, so registration should happen as soon as a personal identity number exists. For companies relocating several employees at once, arranging accommodation as a group is usually faster and cheaper than leaving each family to compete individually. See housing and offices.

Families

Spouse, cohabiting partner and children under 21 apply alongside the main applicant and accompanying family receive the right to work. For engineering families where both partners work, filing together rather than sequentially is what preserves the second income. See family reunification.
